The Maltese is a dog with long white hair and no undercoat to speak of at all. These dogs are fairly high maintenance, and do require quite a fair bit of grooming on a regular basis. They require a daily brushing and combing regimen, and also must have special lotion applied around the eyes to remove ugly tear stains. Any dead hair needs to be brushed out, as the Maltese does not shed. Maltese dogs have irritating hairs around the eyes which need to be removed by careful clipping. Despite it’s high maintenance, the exercise needs of these dogs are fairly uncomplicated. They have no trouble adapting themselves to the overall activity level of it’s family.

Originating from Italy/Malta, the Maltese stands at an average shoulder height of only 7.75 inches – 9.75 inches (20 cm – 25 cm). This dog is incredibly eager to learn, and has a reputation for being friendly and highly sociable.

The Samoyed breed can weigh up to 65 pounds, but teacup “Sammies” are much smaller. Though they resemble American Eskimo dogs — both members of the Spitz family — they have thicker coats and are known to be more of the herding type.

The high intelligence level of this breed tends to make training a fairly easy experience for most owners. Hailing from Germany, the Pomeranian’s colors can range anywhere from orange, to black, brown, white, or grey. Their coat consists of hair which is long and straight, and includes a thick undercoat. The Pomeranian’s coat should have a light combing schedule of every three weeks or so, followed by periodic light brushings. It is important to note that excessive grooming can damage the undercoat. Pomeranians come in two sizes, with the smaller version having a shoulder height of 7 – 8 inches, while the larger type stands at a shoulder height of 9 – 11 inches.

The West Highland White Terrier breed originates from Scotland. With a shoulder height of around 11, the weight is of 16 and a half pounds. It is very important to keep this dog’s coat hard. Consequently washing should be kept to a minimum. If the coat does get dirty, the hair should be allowed to dry and then be brushed out. Grooming is also minimal with the coat only needing to be hand-plucked twice a year. This dog is very active, it loves to run and play as much as possible. even though this is a small dog it will require a lot of exercise.
